Chase was recently recommended to a pediatric opthamologist. It wasn't good news. (Not horrible, just not good.) Chase's eye sight is so bad (-14.5 prescription, if that means anything to you) that he is at risk for retinal detachment. It is only a 20-30% chance, but if the retinas do detach, it could lead to blindness. He has to be extra careful to not get hit in the head, especially not the eyes. The doctors want him to try hard contacts, which difficult enough for a teenager to do. But a 5 year old...? I don't know.
And unfortunately, as Chase gets older, his eyesight will worsen, which increases his risk for retinal detachment. But so far, he's okay. And we're going to hold on to that, and hope that he always is.

Is lasik an option for this?
Oh man, poor Chase!!! Sorry Stacey. Sadly I've tried the Lasik route, and with a perscription that high, he's not a likely candidate. The best candidates are people with barely a perscription at all, which makes ya wonder why people get it at all. There is a new technology though, where contacts are surgically placed in your eye, and it's getting better and more common as time goes by. He's young, by the time he's old enough to consider something like that, my guess is he'll have options.
